Teaching objectives

Cross curricular approach: What is it?

Cross Curricular approach is a systematic way of learning where children are given the opportunity to access knowledge through practical exploration. Subjects are not taught in blocks of singular detached subjects, but as opportunities to teach students the skills to collaborate in the classroom helping them to become effective members of tomorrow’s society. Cross curricular involves the teaching of geography, science, history, literacy, numeracy, art, ICT and personal skills in a connected and holistic way.

What is child collaboration?

Collaboration means working together towards a common goal. The common goal during a cross curricular approach is to achieve competence, skills and knowledge that have application in the real world, and students should work together productively to enhance their own learning. Through this approach we achieve outcomes in the following areas:
• Cognitive and intellectual goals
• Social goals
• Solving common classroom goals

Cooperative teaching team projects

At Casa della Ghianda, in order to avoid closure inside each class we promote open door teaching through cooperative teaching team projects.

What is a cooperative teaching team?

A cooperative teaching team is a team of teachers identified at the beginning of the school year, belonging to different class ages, who will be working together during the school year in close contact with each other.

Individual learning programmes

La Casa della Ghianda is committed to providing the most effective learning system for each child. At times it may be necessary to review the learning of the child and create a specific individual learning programme. Parents will be asked to attend a meeting with the school to discuss specific needs of the child. As a result of the initial meeting the teacher will create and record an individual learning programme for the child. This will be reviewed with the parents at a later date.

After school clubs

Casa della Ghianda has a policy of no child left behind. If children need extra support, class teachers may suggest that their children participate in homework support clubs. Monday-Thursday 16.30-17.30. Cost of 10 Euros per child, per hour.
